'Home' Analysis (Indie folk)

Editing:

Misty brown and yellow - Nostalgic. Evokes a sense of nostalgia in the viewer and feel personal.
Use of film between shots to make it look like an old video. Edited fast to show a groups many adventures for nostalgia and a personal effect.

Camerawork:

Many close ups of people smiling warmly to evoke nostalgia. Wide shots of a large group of people acting as a family, another indie approach to the music video.
Jerky to look handheld by a person.

Nostalgia is a common theme in indie music videos.

Mise en Scene:

Lots of nature, representing life, and indie clothing. Characters in the video run and walk around excitedly, seemingly free; a common convention of the indie genre. Characters wearing 60s-esque clothing for the folk/indie approach.

Goodwin's theory:

1.) Links between lyrics and visuals - Very nostalgic and loving lyrics that fit with the visuals of a group of people on film.
2.) Links between music and visuals - Thought beats are used in the video and, along with the lyrics, the music sounds loving and nostalgic with it's whistling and upbeat feeling.
3.) Genre characteristics - Again, very nostalgic and based around nature and love. Follows many conventions of the indie folk genre.
4.) Notions of looking - Very little use of notions of looking and male gaze does not seem to be used in the music video.
5.) Concept based music video with performance shown at the very end.
